Use & care

A practical guide to maintain your log

Each Chabret log is manufactured on demand, making each piece unique, both in its natural nuances and its handcrafted character. Slight imperfections may appear, testifying to the craftsmanship and uniqueness of the wood, without altering its quality.

Designed for daily use, we recommend that you follow the steps below to ensure a long-lasting log over time.

Using your block for the first time

Some precautions must be taken to preserve the quality and effectiveness of your product.

For the first few uses, especially the first one, oil your log with cooking oil (1 to 2 tablespoons, spread with a clean cloth over all the log's surfaces). This will keep it looking its best, and ensure its long life.

Maintain your block daily

After each use, you must:

  1. Scrape your block with the blade of a knife or a scraper, this will remove the excess of moisture from the cut meat and keep the wood in perfect condition.
  2. Oil your block once a month with cooking oil, spread 1 to 2 tablespoons (for a 50x40cm log) with a clean cloth on all log surfaces to ensure long life.

If the block is only used for decoration, it is strongly recommended to varnish it to avoid shrinkage or expansion.

What you should never put your block through

  • NEVER wet your log to clean it.
  • Do not place in contact with hot pots or pans
  • Do not place it in close proximity to forced-air heating or air-conditioning systems, as these dry out the air.
  • Do not overexpose it to sunlight behind glass.
  • Do not expose it to excessive temperature changes
  • Do not clamp it between two materials without providing an expansion joint, when flush-mounted.
  • Do not place on damp surfaces or surfaces under construction (plaster, damp cement, etc.).

Guaranteed blocks

All Chabret butcherblocks are guaranteed for 6 months against all manufacturing defects, provided that all the conditions listed above have been met. Only a manufacturing defect will be taken into account.
