Practical guide to maintain your block
Each Chabret block is made to order, making each piece unique, both in its natural nuances and its artisanal character. Slight imperfections may appear, evidence of manual work and the uniqueness of wood, without altering its quality. Designed for daily use, we recommend following the steps to maintain a durable block over time.
First use of your block
Certain precautions must be observed to preserve the quality and effectiveness of your product.
During the first uses, especially the first one, you should oil your block with cooking oil (1 to 2 tablespoons to spread with a clean cloth on all surfaces of the block). This will allow it to keep a better appearance and will guarantee it a very long life.
Maintain your block daily
After each use, you must:
- Scrape your block with the blade of a knife or scraper, this will remove excess moisture from the cut meat and keep the wood in perfect condition.
- Oil your block once a month with cooking oil, spread 1 to 2 tablespoons (for a 50x40cm block) with a clean cloth on all surfaces of the log to ensure better longevity.
If the block serves only as a decoration, it is strongly advised to varnish it in order to prevent it from shrinking or expanding.

What should never be done to your block
- NEVER wet your block for cleaning purposes
- Do not put it in contact with dishes or cooking pans
- Do not place it excessively close with forced air heating or air conditioning, as these systems dry out the air.
- Do not overexpose it to the sun behind a window.
- Do not subject it to excessive temperature changes. Do not tighten it between two materials without providing an expansion joint, when it is embedded.
- Do not place it on a wet surface or during construction. (plaster, cement still wet...).
